Laminated Copper Connectors

Copper Laminated Flexible Connectors do the job of acting as flexible expansion joints for connecting bus bars in different applications. They are manufactured by using electrolytic tough pitch grade (ETP) copper foil. These multiple copper foils, generally of 0.2mm thickness, are stacked together and are then solidified by applying high current under high pressure.

The solidification is done by a special metal diffusion process where the copper melts itself and forms a homogeneous bond. Due to this process, there is a very negligible, almost nil, milivolt drop across the connector, which results in a reduction in temperature rise and increase in the current carrying capacity. Copper laminated flexible connectors carry a constant cross section area over the entire piece. Hence, the current carrying capacity of a solid copper busbar and that of a laminated copper flexible connector are the same. This makes laminated copper flexible, a perfect substitute for solid copper busbar. There is no filler metal used for solidifying the copper laminated flexible connector.

Laminated Copper Flexible Specification :

  • Single foil thickness: 0.05mm to 0.50mm
  • The ends can be bare, tin or silver coated
  • Width of the connector: 20mm to 400mm
  • Raw material used is ETP grade copper with a minimum copper content of 99.90% and conductivity greater than 97% IACS
  • Cross-sectional area of connector: 20 to 10000 +
  • Insulation can be provided on request

Laminated copper flexible connectors are also manufactured by way of riveting, in which the ends are solidified by using copper rivets. Copper laminated flexible connectors can also be tin plated or silver plated if required.

The possibility of drilling, sawing, brazing, milling, & welding the solid contact areas is also not an issue when it comes to manufacturing copper laminated flexible connectors.

The raw material used to manufacture copper foils which are used to make the copper laminated flexible connectors is LME grade “A” Copper Cathode with copper content of more than 99.9%  resulting in higher conductivity, crack-free extrusion, excellent finish and longer life.
